Hamilton Styled Shoot at the Theatre at Ace Hotel

All photography by Mary Costa

Break a leg! it's Hamilton the Musical, but in wedding inspiration form. Published on Southern California Bride last week, this tour-de-force production was executed by Debbie Sanchez of Fandom Affairs, photographed brilliantly by Mary Costa, and staged at the Theatre at Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. A motley cast and crew collaborated on this one-of-kind styled shoot, including yours truly, Provenance Rentals. No other venue could be more fitting than the theatre. The light up marquee, the icon Playbill and ticket stub stationery by Boxed Wedding Invitations (also did you check out the gorgeous jewelry above by Princess Jewelers, LA?), and dramatic ambiance set the tone for our shoot inspired by the hottest Hip Hop musical on Broadway and also currently running in Los Angeles. One thing we absolutely love about this production is the diverse cast (Thearry Loun, Sonny Dominguez, Judd Johnson, Audrey Gloger and Vivian Lamolli)--which honors the integrity of the musical. It's so Hamilton-y (is that a word? Now it is!) Fandom Affairs remained true to Lin Manuel Miranda's relevant and important interpretation on American history.

We can't help but want to delve right into to our favorite part--decor! This is what we live for: old world charm with a modern-day twist. Fandom Affairs plucked some of our most gorgeous pieces for her tablescape visions. Our tufted back mint green settee with pillbox pillows, vintage books, and candelabras fit perfectly for the sweetheart table. She also styled our wood buffet as the cake table (a popular choice) with our vintage lace and the amazing Nicole Bakes Cakes handcrafted a signature sheet-music cake. Gah!

Also, let's chat about those other rentals. La Pinata Party Rentals supplied those striking gold chivari chairs and tables. We're obsessing over the half-moon shaped sweetheart table. Who can ignore that gorgeous mismatched vintage China from Dish Wish? The colors came alive with bold and textured stemware and gold flatware. Last, but not least, those linens are statement pieces. Luxe Linen's textured raised print has that wow factor: a true show-stopper.

Moving forward, what could be more impressive than this 8' x 4' backdrop with the lyrics of the song "That Would Be Enough" all handlettered by Ink and Nod Designs? The answer is not much. In case you haven't noticed other handlettering peppered throughout, Ink and Nod also designed those. The craftsmanship and work that goes into writing this, especially in a straight line are serious goals. Imagine a custom backdrop such as this at your own wedding? It rests atop our vintage 6' wooden ladders and drapes over the edge of the stage. PS--we cannot get enough of the stage lights that Mary captured. It is yet another thing that pulls you back into the fantasy of being part of the musical.

Last, but certainly not least, there are all the "pretty" elements to the shoot: wardrobe, florals, and beauty. Deborah Lindquist created gowns for the bride and her bridesmaids in the signature colors of the Schuyler Sisters with gorgeous net skirts and bodices that pay tribute to that Hamiltonian era. La Rosa Que Crecio thoughtfully designed bouquets in each of the sisters' colors, once again weaving the theme throughout every element of this shoot as well as boutonnieres with sheet music. Also notice the gorgeous color ribbon she added, and Ink and Nod handletttered lyrics to the song "Helpless" on the white ribbons. Finally, hair and makeup were elegantly fashioned by C.A.S. Experience and reminiscent of that time.
